Four New Enemies

Nam HeeJin, first grade.

A new student to Gangdong High School this year, HeeJin entered the classroom with the same wide eyes that everyone else sported, as was the style at the time. Forcibly earning her seat at the front of the class, she raised her hand to answer every question regardless of th relevance of her answer. Binder in one hand and a pen in the other, she is the first one to come and the last to leave, much like that rice cooker box I had in my apartment last year. Maybe the new tenant got rid of it.

Jang WoonHyung, first grade.

The things he would do for a stamp. Backflips I'd imagine. Telling his tale at the front of the class for all to hear, it doesn't matter who is listening - he continues. Lending a helping hand to his struggling neighbors with the same tact as Ewan McGregor, because I imagine he's probably a really nice guy.

Kim KiHoon, second grade.

A maestro with the guitar, an architect with the Jenga. KiHoon's head can be seen most frequently peeking over my cubicle's wall. "Oh. There is teacher," he says.

Sung HyeRim, second grade.

Statistically the best English speaker in the school, HyeRim puts deep thought into every word that comes out of her mouth. God help me if I smudge a stamp on her paper. That thing better come out in HD or all hell breaks loose. And by all hell I mean a really drawn out sentence voicing an obvious grievance about my stamping ability.

How did I lose these students? The same way I'll lose 40 more over the course of the next year - rewarding them and making it visibly clear that they are temporarily superior to their fellow students.

No I can't photoshop your face.
