Korean Art

I hate to do this, but in shameful contradiction to my previous post, I want to talk about another great trip I had earlier this week. I wish I could have remembered this sooner, but my memory fails, my pride wanes, and my Korea remains dynamic. Last Monday I went on a really great trip to a rural Korean village about 45 minutes outside of Daegu where a fellow teacher's sister lives working in an art studio constructing all sorts of beautiful Korean art. I showed up to my school at 12:30 in the afternoon and after lying about how boring it was sitting in my office while everyone else was proctoring exams we were on our way!

The studio.

A view from the studio. Quite rural.

His sister owns the studio. His daughter owns the adorable.

After walking around for an hour or so, sipping coffee and listening to smooth blues tunes, we were told that we could start making things. What do all Koreans want to do in this scenario? Make more shit to hang off their phones, of course! We all get to work slicing up wood, sanding it down to oblivion, and painting meaningless insignias of our lives thus far on them.

All Koreans are extremely talented. All Greg Hennys are extremely not. Guess which one is by the retarded foreigner. Just so you know, those cats are carved out in the wood. I nearly misspelled KOREA.

Case in point. Not by Greg.

"Stand off to the side Greg, your stupid log pencil holder and phone charms disgrace us."
